Annual auto shows typically attract millions of spectators worldwide. Some visitors are in the market for a new vehicle. Others are simply curious about upcoming showroom models or innovative prototypes. Take a look at some of the biggest car shows in the world.

Chicago Auto Show

Each February, the Windy City hosts one of the grandest and highly attended auto shows in the world. The event takes place at the McCormick Place and typically welcomes one million visitors in the facility’s one million square feet of space. More than 36 worldwide vehicle manufacturers showcase approximately 1,000 cars, trucks and SUVs. Due to the expansive interior of the venue, guests are also often treated to live concerts, food and merchandise vendors. Test tracks are also often provided, which enable guests to go for test drives.

North American International Auto Show

Locally known as the Detroit Auto Show, the exhibition takes place at Detroit’s Cobo Center. The grand event spans two weeks in the middle of each January. However, the first few days are devoted to various charitable organizations, automotive company representatives and the media. The Metro Detroit show has been attracting spectators for more than a century. No wonder as the city is home to Chrysler, Ford and General Motors. The facility boasts one million square feet of space, which is more than sufficient to display the large selection of concept and production cars. The event also includes awards for the Car of the Year, the Truck of the Year and the Eyes On Design.

Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung

The Germany event is also known as the International Motor Show Germany or the International Motor Show. The exhibition remains the largest trade fair on the planet due to the number of vehicles that go on display. The fair typically alternates between commercial and passenger vehicle showings. During even-numbered years, commercial vehicles are displayed in Hanover. During odd-numbered years, passenger vehicles are shown in Frankfurt am Main. Both shows extend for a full week toward the end of September and include a glimpse at concept and production models.

Paris Mondial De L’Automobile

The annual Paris Auto Show takes place in Paris at the Porte de Versailles. The exhibition only occurs during even-numbered years and includes production and concept vehicles. The event is considered unique, as the show was the first in the world since its inception in 1898.
